This Year’s Hot Bathroom Design Trends

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2018!

And from everyone here at Bath Planet North Bay, we hope the upcoming year is a great one for you and your family.

Speaking of which, are you thinking about undertaking a bath remodeling project this year?

And are you looking for some ideas to inspire your bathroom renovation?

If so, take a look at what’s going to be hot for bathroom décor in 2018.

Small bathroomEmbrace the small bathroom

It would be nice if you had a bathroom large enough to accommodate things like:

  • Dual bathtubs
  • His-and-hers sinks
  • Family sized cabinets
  • Endless marble flooring
  • Drying stations

In 2018, smaller bathrooms will be in vogue.

Now, it’s important to note the difference between comfortable and cramped.

That means efficiently using – and not wasting – the space you have available with items such as:

Lastly, putting down interesting floor patterns or wall graphics can make a small bathroom feel much bigger than it is.

Brass faucetBrass and gold-coloured fixtures are coming back

Remember going to your grandparents’ house and seeing gaudy brass handles, faucets and shower rods?

That was many years ago. Since then, brass and gold fixtures have given way to things like:

  • Silver
  • Metal
  • Pewter

In 2018, brass and gold hardware is making a comeback. But instead of bring bright, they’ll have a warm, comfortable look to them.

While silver conveys a cool and modern look, brass has a traditional feel to it which – when done right – will never really go out of style.

And it’s not just handles and faucets which are embracing the brass/gold revolution.

Mirrors, light fixtures, even switch plate covers are all expected to be brass or go gold this year.

Vanity lightsStylish vanity lights

Lighting overtop the bathroom vanity area tends to be a bit of an afterthought. Most people are concerned about the obvious elements:

  • Cabinet
  • Counterop/sink
  • Faucet
  • Hardware
  • Mirrors

In years past, the lights which are usually placed above the mirrors were about function rather than form.

In 2018, vanity lights will take centre stage in the bathroom design process.

Smartly using things like wall sconces, sleek light bars, and even pendant lights will make a world of difference in how the bathroom looks and is lit.

Lastly, for those who do have a large bathroom (as mentioned earlier in this blog), it won’t be uncommon to see a chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

Gold bathroomBold colours on the walls

Bath wall surrounds and shower wall surrounds – by default –are either white or beige.

When you think about it, that makes sense. The bathroom is a place to relax and be calm. So having neutral colours is quite logical.

In 2018, bold and brightly coloured walls will be the bathroom décor style of choice.

Whether it’s doing things like…

  • Painting the walls red
  • Installing blue floor tiles
  • Putting dark (or even wood-like) tones inside the shower wall

…the full spectrum of the rainbow will make its way to the bathroom this year.

Bathroom drawerSmart storage

Think about all the stuff you store in your bathroom:

  • Toilet paper
  • Towels
  • Soap
  • Toiletries
  • Small appliances (hair dryer, curling iron)
  • Clothes hamper

It doesn’t make sense to pull those items out of your bathroom.

So in 2018, efficient organization and storage solutions will make their way into your bathroom.

It could be something as simple has hanging shelves on an unused part of the bathroom wall. Or something a bit more extensive, like redesigning your under-counter cabinets.

And it can also be something practical, like having a shelf directly built into the shower liner to keep things like shampoo out of the way (but still accessible).

Digital showerDigitally controlled showers

If a 2017 bathroom trend was the “multimedia bathroom”, 2018 will be about digitally controlled showers.

Instead of turning on the tap and running the water until it reaches the desired temperature, digital showers feature a built-in thermostat.

Each time you go to shower, the water will always be at the desired temperature you set the thermostat at.

Best of all? Water that’s running at the same time in other areas of the house (like the dishwasher) won’t interfere with the shower temperature.
